- an American cheddar
Cougar Gold is a firm cow's milk cheddar from Washington state, in the United States, and it is sold in a sealed can. The style is an American cheddar, pale rather than dyed orange, with a sharp tang once the cheese has matured. There is no rind, because the tin takes the place of cloth or wax. It is made to be sliced, melted, or grated after the can is opened. Until then, the closed can is the whole package.
